Frequently Asked Questions

Why 2:1 Glucose:Fructose Ratio?

Your gut has two separate transport channels for absorbing carbohydrates during exercise. SGLT1 handles glucose. GLUT5 handles fructose. They work independently, and they can both run at the same time.

A gel that uses only glucose can only saturate one channel, capping absorption at around 60g per hour. Add fructose in the right ratio and you open the second channel simultaneously, pushing absorption capacity up to 90g per hour. That's 50% more fuel reaching your muscles in the same amount of time.

The 2:1 ratio is the formulation that research has consistently shown to maximise dual-channel absorption without overloading either pathway. It's not a marketing claim, it's applied carbohydrate physiology, validated across decades of sport science literature.

More fuel absorbed. Less sitting in the gut. Less cramping. More output for longer.

Why liposomal and why does it matter for your stomach?

Most gels are thick, concentrated carbohydrate paste. Your digestive system has to work to break them down, drawing water into the gut in the process. That's where the cramping, bloating, and nausea come from, not just the carbs themselves, but the format they arrive in.

The SUPPLME gel is liquid and liposomal delivered. Liposomes are microscopic phospholipid spheres, the same structure as your cell membranes, that encapsulate the carbohydrates and carry them directly to absorption sites in the gut wall. Instead of your stomach processing a dense paste, the nutrients arrive in a form it recognises and can absorb immediately.

The result: faster uptake, less digestive workload, and significantly reduced GI stress. No thick texture to fight down mid-race. No water needed to chase it. No gut bomb at hour three.

If you've ever abandoned a gel mid-race because your stomach said no, this is the reason that happens, and this is the fix.

When should I take it, and how many per hour?

The rule of thumb: for efforts under 60 minutes, you don't need a gel. Your body's stored glycogen is sufficient. From 60–90 minutes onwards, aim for 30–60g of carbs per hour. Beyond 90 minutes, push that to 60–90g per hour depending on intensity.

At 32g carbs per gel, that translates to:

  • 60–90 min session: 1 gel per hour
  • 90 min–3 hour session: 1–2 gels per hour
  • 3+ hours / race day: 2–3 gels per hour

For timing, take your first gel at the 45-minute mark and continue every 20–30 minutes from there. Don't wait until you feel empty, by the time you bonk, you're already behind.

For a precise, personalised fuelling plan built around your specific event, duration, intensity, and body weight, use the SUPPLME FuelPlan at supplme.com. It calculates exactly how many gels and electrolytes you need, and when to take them.

Why Ultra Liquid Format?

Thick gels are essentially concentrated carbohydrate paste. They require water to process, they coat your mouth, and the consistency is unpleasant mid-effort. The liquid format is ready to absorb immediately, no mixing in your stomach, no texture to fight, no needing to chase it with a full mouthful of water.
